APA Style 6th Ed.: Reference List

09:24
This video will show you how to set up your paper following correct APA Style guidelines in Microsoft Word 2010 for PC. This specific video focuses on how to make a reference list and correctly reference journal articles, books, book chapters, government documents, and dissertations. The steps should be very similar on every version of Word since 2007 for PC. On Word for Mac, I believe the steps are the same, but the interface is different. APA Hacks: Hanging Indents

02:15
Create a hanging indent for your reference citations in Microsoft Word. Transcript: How can you make hanging indents that look good in your APA reference list? A couple of settings and you are set. In this example, I am using Microsoft Word 2010. Select your entries or make sure your cursor is at the point in your text where the reference entries begin or select entries that need to be formatted. The first step is to find the small icon on the paragraph tab to bring up the paragraph dialog box. When the dialog box appears, find the section for “indentation” and use the dropdown to find “hanging.” Next, in the spacing section, set “before” and “after” to 0. Choose line-spacing, and select “double.” Tick the box for “Don’t add space between paragraphs of the same style.” Click okay and every reference entry you type will be appropriately set as a hanging indent. Be sure you use the “enter” key only at the end of each entry. These settings can be automated somewhat using the “Styles” function. Just select a reference entry that is correctly formatted. Go to “styles” and pull down the menu. Select “Save selection” as a new quick style, give it a name in the dialog box, and boom! Every time you type an entry, just use the APA style to correctly format it. One more trick—if you have everything set to double-space and all you need to do is create the hanging indent, use control and T (on a Mac, use Command plus T).

APA Reference List Basics: An Easy Guide (Video 4 of 4)

08:07
This video shows you how to construct a reference list in APA format. http://youstudynursing.com/ Captions are available by clicking on "cc." There are some great tips in it to make your life easier! Please like, subscribe and provide feedback. I am happy to make more videos for you. The reference list must always start at the top of a new page. Using a page break will ensure that your reference list formatting is not compromised by a change in the length of your paper. Hanging indents are used for all reference list entries. Each entry will contain the necessary information to allow the reader to find your source in a library search. These references generally contain the following information: author, year of publication, title and publication data. The most common form of entry you will use is a journal reference. This entry contains author information followed by the year of publication, title of the article, name of the journal, volume and issue numbers as well as the page numbers and digital object identifier number. Use of books within essays as a reference is generally discouraged as articles provide more current information. However, if a book is used place the author and year of publication information at the beginning of your entry in the same way as you would for a journal article. The title of the book is then italicised. The location of publication should consist of the city and state if published in the United States. If the book was published outside of the United States, give the city and country. Note that there are alternate forms of referencing parts of an edited book. Be sure to use the correct form of citation. Occasionally you may also need to cite a credible website. Be careful when using websites as sources. To reference this type of work list the author, year, and title as you would in a book entry. Then type "Retrieved from" and insert the website link. The reference list is alphabetized by the last name of the first author of each work. Do not alphabetize the names of authors within a work. Please see the APA book for more information about alphabetization rules. If the author is a group, alphabetize using the first significant work in the name. Use the group's full names not the abbreviations in the reference list. If the work is signed as "anonymous" begin the work with the word "anonymous" spelled out. Use the automatic sorting function in the paragraph group on the home tab to do an initial sort. Sort by paragraphs, using text in an ascending manner. Be sure to check the list afterwards for accuracy given APA rules. For example, word will place the following two names in this order, whereas the APA book states that nothing precedes something. Be sure to check that your reference list is complete and matches your citations. There should be no missing or extra entries. Only include entries for works that you have cited within the body of your paper. Note that there are many tools such as RefWorks, database examples of citations and functions within Word and other programs to aid in compiling your reference list. It is your responsibility to ensure the accuracy of your references. There are often mistakes made within these tools as they are only as good as the data entered within them. If you choose to use one of these tools be sure to check your reference list thoroughly afterwards.

In-Text Citations Made Easy (APA)

07:38
Whenever you use a source, you must have an in-text citation and a reference citation. They're a matched pair--like shoes or gloves. What are the differences between an APA in-text citation and an APA reference citation? How do the two work together? This video explains how to format and coordinate your APA in-text citations with your APA reference citations in the context of a discussion board post. But the same principles for using APA in-text citations applies to anything that you write which cites sources: DB posts, APA research papers, APA PowerPoints, and so on. APA in-text citations are just an abbreviated form of a reference citation (which is given only once). But APA in-text citations have to be used in every sentence that borrows from a source. But don't worry. There are simple, easy-to-understand tips and tricks for in-text citations that will have you citing perfectly in just a few minutes. In-text citations--the easy way! APA Formatting for PowerPoint: How to Apply APA Style to PowerPoint Presentations

05:22
Guidelines for APA should also be applied to PowerPoint presentations when required. Any use of outside source material must be documented on the PowerPoint slide using APA citation formats from the 6th edition. Because PowerPoint slides are mainly a visual medium, the presenter must know how APA documents elements such as images, tables, graphs, and other media with titles, notes, and APA parenthetical citations. APA style and citation formats still apply to PowerPoint slides although the citations are being using in a different medium.

Video tutorial on in text citation and referencing using Microsoft Word

04:51
There is a very easy way to in text citation and referencing. In this video it will focus on 1. APA format 2. Microsoft Word 2007, 2010, 2013 3. Advance in text citation Any format (style can learned) See the bold area? It’s a quotation. First we are going to cite at the end of the quotation. Click reference tab. Select your style. I am going to choose A P A style. You can choose which one you want. Now, click manage resource from reference tab. Click, New, to input a new reference. Select the reference type. I will use Book. A box with few black field will appear. Now you have to fill it. I will collect information on the quotation, and I will fill these fields. Try to find all information, however if you don’t find it. Leave it blank. Click Okey. If the new reference is not on the current list, select it from master list. Then click copy to send it to master list. Now, click insert citation from reference tab. Click the citation you want to insert. Remember citation will be inserted where your mouse courser is. So correctly position it before you insert it. When a reference is a direct quotation, it is important to mention the page number. To do that click on the in text citation. Then click edit citation. And then input your page number. Click ok. And this is the basics of creating in text citation. Now I am going to delete it. And show you how to insert an in text citation at the beginning of the quotation. When you are using in text citation at the beginning of the quotation you cannot use the author name because you have to use it like this Capital punishment is defined by Kronenwetter then the in text citation then the quotation. To do that we have to exclude the author name from the in text citation, and have to manually write the last name of author. Click insert citation, then click on the inserted in text citation. Click edit citation. Click exclude author. Now remember what I said about direct quotation? Yes! You have to insert page number. But some style do not support inserting page number at the beginning of the quotation. So again insert citation at the end of the quotation, then exclude, title, author & year input page number. And you are done. Easy Right? Thank you for watching. In the next Video I will show how to manage bibliography. Please like the video and subscribe to my channel

APA Style 6th Ed.: In-Text Citations, Quotations, and Plagiarism

This video will show you how to set up your paper following correct APA Style guidelines in Microsoft Word 2010 for PC. This specific video focuses on using parenthetical and in-text citations, quotations, and how to properly credit authors to avoid plagiarism. The steps should be very similar on every version of Word since 2007 for PC. On Word for Mac, I believe the steps are the same, but the interface is different. How to reference a book written by multiple authors in APA format

01:53
Hello and welcome to the video reference series presented by termpapergurus.com. In this lecture, we will discuss how to cite a book written by two or more authors in the reference list of a APA format paper. The part after the name of the authors is exactly the same as that of the single authors. That is, the book title is in italics and that is followed by the city the book was published in and the name of the publisher. All of this is found either on the front or back cover of the book or on the first few pages. Also, remember to capitalize only the first word of the book title and proper nouns. NOTHING ELSE! The more confusing part in this reference is of the names of the authors. A key point to remember here is to use the ampersand symbol before the last name of the last author. A key point to remember here is to use the ampersand symbol before the last name of the last author. Students often don't use the symbol and spell out and instead which is penalized by intructors. Also, remember to use a comma after the period you placed after the middle initial. This needs to be done for all the authors except for the last one. And finally, in case you have a book which is authored by six authors you need to use the first six authors' names, and replace the seventh and subsequent authors with "et al.," which means "and others." Like so. Here is an example of a citation. Please remember, to use hanging indents. If you don't know how to use them, we have a separate video on it. Please click the link and it will take you there. That's all for this video I guess, take good care of your academics! Bye! Sample citation from the video Last name, First initial. Middle initial., Last name, First initial. Middle initial., & Last name, First initial. Middle initial. (Year). Book title. Location: Publisher. Mazzeo, J., Druesne, B., Raffeld, P. C., Checketts, K. T., & Muhlstein, A. (1991). Comparability of computer and paper-and-pencil scores for two CLEP general examinations. Princeton, NJ:Educational Testing Service.
