Aimed at wider audiences and a part of brands’ storytelling, as Milano Fashion Week kicks off today the fashion shows will be consolidating their new role as of recent years, as explains in this video Paola Cillo of the Department of Management &Technology. Fashion shows have in fact taken up a new role in in company strategy and are now aimed at a wider audience (the general public and consumers and not just journalists or buyers) thanks also to the fact that images of shows can now be shared, and commented, immediately on the web and social platforms. Fashion shows are also no more simply a commercial tool but are now part of a brand’s wider storytelling strategy. And they have become more and more real pieces of art – where the true content is not so much the product but the messages that the designer wants to convey about the brand.

Now we are going to take a look at the largest fashion hub in Korea, Seoul′s iconic Dongdaemun Fashion Town,... which is visited by millions of tourists and local shoppers every year. Park Ji-won has this week′s Industry Insight. You can′t talk about Korea′s fashion industry without mentioning the Dongdaemun fashion market. Dongdaemun Fashion Town is the largest clothing market in Korea,... and about one-third of all Korea′s clothing distributors are based near the region. From textiles and clothing subsidiary materials... to sewing factories and wholesale and retail shops,... if it has to do with clothing and fashion, you′ll find it here. A designer′s idea can be made into a final product... in just a day. Let′s take a look. This is Dongdaemun Fashion Town, the location of more than 30 fashion malls and tens of thousands of small clothing shops. "It′s really amazing all the district, and all the fashion is really nice." "I sometimes see items with unique designs that I cannot find at brand name or department stores." Retail shops are open from midnight or 2 a.m. and wholesale shops open from 8 p.m. to the next morning, meaning the market operates 24 hours-a-day. What′s peculiar to the district is that it′s like a complete fashion ecosystem, where everything about fashion is clustered together. Thousands of fabric and clothing subsidiary shops, and more than 20-thousand small sewing factories are all nearby. Designers can turn their ideas into clothes in just a day by making a sample, and once the design is confirmed, mass production can start after another day or two. With Dongdaemun′s fast yet sophisticated designs gaining global recognition, many orders now come from abroad. "Now we get many orders for samples from China, as Chinese buyers visit Dongdaemun often." The Dongdaemun district makes more money from exports than domestic sales, especially in the wholesale market. "Roughly 60 percent of the town′s annual revenue comes from exports. International buyers are mostly from China, Taiwan and Japan." The fashion town also serves as a testbed for many up-and-coming designers. "This is a hip fashion mecca where you can make and sell clothes. The region helps with my market research and market sourcing." Some designers have successfully grown from single shops into fashion empires. This modern brand began from a shop in Dongdaemun,... but has expanded to include dozens of shops in China. "Codes Combine started as a shop in Dongdaemun in 2002. Now we have many products in many categories, particularly menswear, underwear and a kids′ clothing line." Fashion Group Hyungji,... which has the number-one market share in women′s clothes as a domestic company,.. also started as a humble shop in Dongdaemun market in the early 1980s. "The founder of the group still emphasizes the so-called Dongdaemun spirit,... which is characterized by designs that ar

Saks Fifth Avenue http://www.saksfifthavenue.com/Entry.jsp The ultimate in luxury and choices. Saks Fifth Avenue is the successor of a business founded by Andrew Saks in 1867 and incorporated in New York in 1902 as Saks & Company. Saks died in 1912, and in 1923 Saks & Co. merged with Gimbel Brothers, Inc., which was owned by a cousin of Horace Saks, Bernard Gimbel, operating as a separate autonomous subsidiary. On September 15, 1924, Horace Saks and Bernard Gimbel opened Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City, with a full-block avenue frontage south of St Patrick's Cathedral, facing Rockefeller Center. The architects were Starrett & van Vleck, who developed a reticent, genteel Anglophile classicizing facade similar to their Gimbels Department Store in Pittsburgh (1914). When Bernard's brother, Adam Gimbel, became president of Saks Fifth Avenue in 1926 after Bernard's sudden passing, the company expanded, opening seasonal resort branches in Palm Beach, Florida and Southampton, New York, in 1928. The first full-line year-round Saks store opened in Chicago, in 1929, followed by another resort store in Miami Beach, Florida. In 1938, Saks expanded to the West Coast, opening in Beverly Hills, California. By the end of the 1930s, Saks Fifth Avenue had a total of 10 stores, including resort locations such as Sun Valley, Idaho, Mount Stowe, and Newport, Rhode Island. More full-line stores followed with Detroit, Michigan, in 1940 and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1949. In Downtown Pittsburgh, the company moved to its own freestanding location approximately one block from its former home on the fourth floor in the downtown Gimbel's flagship. The San Francisco location opened in 1952, competing locally with I. Magnin. BATUS Inc. acquired Gimbel Bros., Inc. and its Saks Fifth Avenue subsidiary in 1973 as part of its diversification strategy. More expansion followed from the 1960s through the 1990s including the Midwest, and the South, particularly in Texas. In 1990, BATUS sold Saks to Investcorp S.A., which took Saks public in 1996 as Saks Holdings, Inc.

View of street FASHION DESIGNER LIZ CLAIBORNE DIES, 78 Fashion designer Liz Claiborne revolutionised the way working women put together their wardrobes - because she was one of them. She made it easy for them as they pioneered up corporate ladders in the 1970s and 1980s, offering coordinated outfits at once serious and stylish, but also affordable. Claiborne died on Tuesday at the New York Presbyterian Hospital after suffering from cancer for a number of years, said Gwen Satterfield, personal assistant to Claiborne. She was 78. With husband Art Ortenberg and partners Leonard Boxer and Jerome Chazen, Claiborne launched her label in 1976 after working for years as a relatively unknown dress designer. The brand emphasised ensemble sportswear, quality and keeping the price tag below that of other designers. Liz Claiborne and her husband retired from the day-to-day operations in 1989. The new approach to dressing revolutionised the department store industry, which had focused on stocking pants in one department and skirts in another. The clothes became an instant hit, and the company went public in 1981. By 1985, Liz Claiborne Inc. was the first company founded by a woman to be listed in the Fortune 500, according to the company's Web site. As the company grew, the designer expanded her offerings to include more casual clothes and also popular licensed accessories. Her handbags with the triangular Liz Claiborne logo and taupe trim were fixtures on the arms of both high school girls and their mothers in the 1980s. "Liz's designs have influenced the way American women dress and will influence them forever. She made it okay to be female at work, she made it okay to wear colour to be flamboyant, it's okay to be out there, she changed the whole aesthetic of American dressing, one fashion designer Dana Buchman said. "She's an icon, she really changed the fashion industry," one New Yorker told AP Television. He's shopping for dark washed jeans at different price points including designer. The Review 1. American Eagle ($59 each but buy-one-get-one 1/2 off) - he purchases both non-distress extreme flex wash which is is super comfortable & AWESOME as well as the the distressed pair. Great deal! 2. 7 For All Mankind ($248) - they were crazy super long and super stretchy. He really disliked them, and $248 is too expensive. 3. Diesel ($225) - Thommer distressed style fit great. These are the most expensive pair of jeans he ever purchased (which is a downside), but the pair reminds him of his favorite Jack Threads slim fit jeans. 4. J Brand ($178) - Hood non-distressed dark wash are the MOST comfortable & soft jeans he's ever put on. They are slim through the legs, the front is flat, and fly lays nice & clean. 5. GAP ($69 regularly but on sale for $39) - slim fit stretch denim is incredibly comfortable but does not have as much stretch as American Eagle. The price is the best part. He picks these jeans as the best because they're age appropriate, they have the best selection of washes, and they're not real trendy. 6. Levis ($74) - two way stretch advanced technology are solid & quality jeans, but he's not in love with these as much as the other jeans.
